In Memoriam Ineke van de Craats

The LESLLA Board of Directors is deeply saddened by the passing of one of its founding mothers, Ineke van de Craats. Ineke passed away on 2025 September 1. She was a highly talented and inspiring linguist who, early on in her professional career as a Dutch teacher for immigrants, recognized that there was still little knowledge about the simultaneous acquisition of a second language and the acquisition of literacy among adults. Ineke felt it was very important to increase this knowledge. This led her to become one of the founders of LESLLA.

With her knowledge of second language acquisition, her expertise in the field of literacy for adult speakers of other languages, and the power with which she inspired younger and older colleagues alike, Ineke van de Craats has been of great significance to the field of LESLLA.
